As recorded by Hong Kong Cancer Registry, there were total 500 women newly diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2015, which was the 7th most common female cancer. Besides, it was the 9th leading cause of female cancer death in 2016. The median age of diagnosis was 54. Nearly all cervical cancer cases were caused by persistent infection with one of the cancer-causing or high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types. Cervical Cancer Screening is important as early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous cervical cellular changes can prevent its progression to cancer.

To promote cervical cancer screening, the Community Care Fund has conducted a three-year pilot scheme since 13 December 2017.
